Tournaments are a way for players in Clash Royale to compete against each other for prizes. Players win gold for defeating an opponent and can win cards if they place in the tournament.
Tournaments are only available to players once they’ve reached XP level 8. At this point, they are free to join or create their own.
Gems are required to start your own tournament. Larger tournaments require more gems to create but they also reward more chests. The cost is paid by the creator and not the participants.
The creator can select how long they would like the tournament to last. It ranges from 1 hour to 3 days.

Battles have the same mechanics as normal with the exception of card caps. Cards are capped at a certain levels to create an even playing field for all players.
When you’re not battling, you can spectate matches that are currently going on. Tap the red eye button next to a players name to watch their match. Matches can be spectated by all players are not limited to the tournament participants.
Tournaments have several rules in place to create an even playing field for participants.
- King level and Arena Towers are capped at level 9.
- Common cards are capped at level 9.
- Rare cards are capped at level 7.
- Epic cards are capped at level 4.
- Legendary cards are capped at level 1.
- Length of overtime is 3 minutes (instead of 1 during normal play).
Tournament chests are won by ranking higher than other players at the end of the event. The chests contain cards and the amount will vary depending on the size of the tournament. The rewards are higher for bigger tournaments.
Tournament chests behave similarly to regular chests. The tournament chest must be unlocked before a player can participate in another tournament. You can open the chest faster by using gems.
